Father Pat was born January 11,
1939 in Swinford, County Mayo, the second eldest of 9 children – 5 girls
and 4 boys. The family had a small farm and along with cattle and
chickens, raised small amounts of barley, wheat, oats, and vegetables.
Father Pat
Attended local grade and high
schools,
Graduated St. Patrick’s in
1952.
Joined the Missionaries of the
Sacred Heart while attending Sacred Heart College in Cork.
Completed a four-year Theology
program at Sacred Heart College in Galway.
Was ordained to the priesthood
on Dec. 15, 1963.
Said his first Mass in his home
parish.
On finishing his Theology program, he volunteered to
work as a missionary in New Guinea. He spent 5 years on the Island of New
Britain, ministering to the people of the Island. The people to whom he
ministered were scattered over large and great distances. A missionary in New
Guinea at that time had to build churches, schools, clinics and provide for all
the needs of the people. It was a tremendous challenge, but a rewarding one.
Many of the people Father worked with had leprosy or at least were very
susceptible to getting it.
Due to the skin problems caused by the tropical
climate, Father Pat needed to relocate. He was assigned to Texas in 1970 where
he served at St. Anthony’s Church as an assistant pastor, became pastor in 1976 and
served as pastor for 6 years.
Following his service in Texas, Father Pat went on active duty with the U.S.
Army.
The 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell,
Kentucky. 3 ˝ years
Fort Sam Houston - a course in Clinical Pastoral
Education
Chaplain’s Office Advanced course in Fort Monmouth,

Netherlands - providing Mass, counseling, and support for the troops deploying
to Saudi Arabia.

United States Soldiers and Airmen's Home,

As time went on, Father Pat felt that the time had
come to move on. After visiting with Bishop Thompson and Monsignor Carter, and
sharing with them the desire to minister in a parish setting, Father Pat was
assigned to Precious Blood of Christ Church in Pawleys Island. Father Pat feels
truly blessed and at home in this “beautiful place by the sea!”
