MP900433173[1]PERSON OF THE WEEK:  PBOC parishioner, Grace Barnett, recently competed at the Class AA state track and field meet, and won 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and helped Waccamaw High School team win overall 2nd place in the state.  Grace had never won a title, and now she has three – for the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters.  Congratulations, Grace – we are so proud of you!

AID TO OUR MILITARY: Your generosity in donations has enabled us to continue sending care packages to our men and women of the military. They do appreciate your support.  Our Knights of Columbus continues to mail these packages. As long as we receive your and the Knights of Columbus support, our military will continue to receive these care packages.  As always your prayers are requested for our military and their safe return.

SPECIAL COLLECTION: Next week our parish will take up the Collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC).  This Collection communicates the Good News through Catholic social media activities and enriches our faith through podcasts, television, radio, and print media.   Half of all proceeds remain in our diocese, so please be generous in this Collection.  CCC is how the Good News gets around to you.

MASS INTENTIONS - We are going back to our former guidelines of having one intention per Mass. (Multiple intentions already assigned will be honored.) Mass intentions will be taken for dates in the upcoming 3 months.  Guidelines are posed on the church bulletin board.

ATTENTION:  LITURGICAL MINISTERS

It is that time again for us to begin to schedule liturgical ministers for the next quarter.  Please let our chairpersons know by June 1st of any dates you will be away in July, August and September.  You can do this by going to http://pbocchurch.com/schedule.asp and filling out the form.  Your information will automatically go to all of your chairpersons.

 

ROSARY MAKERS –The Rosary Makers Ministry meets on the second Thursday of the month. The next meeting will be held Thursday, June 14, 9:30 – 11:30 in the PLC. For more info, call Helen 235-2639 or Lois 997-0518 (cell). 

 

MINISTRY OF CARE - Let us know of your loved one confined to home, in the hospital or recovering from surgery and now home.  (Hospitals will not give out patient information, so we have no way of knowing your needs.)  Our ministry is to unite the sick and recovering followers of Christ with the Body of Christ, they are not ALONE.  Please call the parish office at 237-3428, Pat at 237-7266 or Gloria at 235-3667.

 

OUTREACH

Fr. Pat’s Lunch Kitchen continues to serve lunch on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with people coming together to enjoy sharing meals and friendship.  Last Wednesday, we served 90 people Tossed Salad with Dressing, Broiled Polish Sausage, Fried Cabbage, Richard’s BBQ Beans, Rolls/Butter, Assorted Desserts and Sweet Tea.  On Thursday we served 87 people Tossed Salad with Dressing, Chicken Vegetable Soup, Turkey/Lettuce/ Tomato Tortilla Wraps, Assorted Desserts and Sweet Tea.

 

Saturday breakfast is served every Saturday morning, 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Last weekend we served 59 people Eggs, Bacon, Hash, Biscuits & Gravy, Fruit, OJ/Coffee/ Milk. 

 

We thank everyone who helps to make these meals a pleasure for all who come, and everyone who donates food.

 

FELLOWSHIP

 

Do you ever wonder,who am I really?”, “What is my purpose in life?”, “Why did God make me male or female?”, “How can I find true happiness on Earth?”, “How can I find love that truly satisfies me?”... to learn the answers to this and more, come join us as our PBOC family journeys into Pope John Paul II’s teachings on Theology of the Body. Two courses of this teaching will be offered this summer. Course I is for adults. Course II is open to teenagers, parents, and individuals who want to learn more about TOB as it relates to issues facing our youth today.  Information session is Monday, May 21st at 6:30 PM in the PLC. MEET THE PRIEST - Learn about Fr. Pat’s vocation to the priesthood at the next “Meet the Priest”---featuring our very own Fr. Pat!      

Wednesday, May 23rd starting with Mass at 5:30 PM, followed by Covered Dish Supper in PLC      (bring something to share). Talk by Fr. Pat.

 

PLEASE PARISHIONERS, MEN AND WOMEN:  We need VIRTUS trained sitters to help watch over the kids during “Meet the Priest” on May 23rd.   We will be sure to have a movie or kids’ games lined up for activities.  Please pray ab9out it and consider helping the families out.  Call Jen Bodie 251-2510 if you are willing to help serve in this way.

 

RCIA Logo by Thomas ScharbachSUMMER RCIA CLASS - This summer we will be offering a “short course” RCIA class (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults).  This program is reserved for those with exceptionally busy schedules and an advanced knowledge of the Catholic Faith.  We will have an Open House for those interested in learning more Wednesday May 31, 7:00 PM in the PLC.  We will still offer the regular RCIA class which starts late September and concludes at the Easter Vigil, March 30, 2013.  The regular class is designed for those who benefit from a more in depth and longer study.  Please pray about these catechetical options for yourself, or someone you know.

 

                                The summer classes will be 2 hours on a date and time each week that is convenient for the most attendees.  We will meet from June through August and be received into the Fullness of the Catholic Faith in September.  If you are interested please join us for the informational meeting or invite / bring a friend to the open house Wednesday May 31, 7:00 PM in the PLC.

 

WOMEN’S CLUB

Pelicans Sign Up!  The month of May is completely accounted for.  Starting in June, the Pelicans have requested that we provide three (3) Knights for all remaining home games.  Please go to the Knights website and sign up today!
