PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTION: NOMINATIONS

Nominations will be accepted through August 25th for the openings on the Parish Pastoral Council.  Nomination Forms are available at the back of church and in the parish office.

Please review the nominating guidelines on the form. Boxes are in the gathering area to deposit your completed nomination forms. Because many of the major ministry and committee heads serving on the Council are relatively long-term parishioners, we encourage you to nominate people who are relatively new to our parish (less than 4 years) to help us achieve a council that represents a cross section of our parish. Voting will take place on the September 18-19 weekend.

Again, thank you.  As always your prayers are requested for our military and their safe return.  – John Glinka

SAINTS TRIVIA:  Answer to last week’s question…

Despite being born over a thousand years before the invention of the computer, Saint Isidore of Seville has been named the Patron Saint of the internet, computer technicians, computer users, computers …and school children and students.  The reason?  He took it upon himself to document all “universal knowledge” much like the Internet aims to do today.  He was a collector and compiler of all information which he put into his writings now known as the Etymologiae, which is said to contain all of the learning possessed in his time.

StewardshipGraphicToday’s reading from Isaiah describes the Israelites bringing their offering to the Lord “in clean vessels.” The gift of myself – my patient endurance and fidelity to the will of God – is as important as the monetary gift I offer.

Knights of Columbus

http://www.petfooddirect.com/productimages/212108100_lg.jpgOperation H.O.P.E. - On the weekend of September 3-5, Council 11028 will be making its final push of the year for Operation H.O.P.E. – better known as the "Tootsie Roll Drive" – at the local grocery stores and after all the Masses.  Operation H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everyday) is a statewide Knights of Columbus charity that provides financial assistance to agencies and institutions that provide services to those who are afflicted with Intellectual Disabilities.  All 59 Councils conduct fund drives, then submit their total monies to the state charity.  Eighty percent (85%) of the monies raised by the individual Councils is returned to agencies in their area that are chosen by that Council. Our Council 11028 has supported many local agencies with these funds but has primarily supported The JOY School, Georgetown County Special Olympics and Georgetown County Special Needs.  The remaining 15% of the money is used by the state charity to fund statewide programs or local programs in areas that need help that cannot be provided by local Councils.  Council 11028 thanks all for their support and kindness in the past and hopes that when you see the Knights at the local grocery stores and outside of church the first weekend of September that you will contribute whatever you can and have a Tootsie Roll on us.
