ACQUISITION OF LAND COLLECTION

In your most recent envelope packet is an envelope for August 8 for the “Acquisition of Land” collection.  This annual collection was formerly known as the “Synod Implementation” collection, which is for new land purchases for parishes in the Diocese of Charleston.  “…This is most important for our commitment to evangelization, to transforming ourselves and the world in which we live, to deepening our conversion to discipleship and stewardship.  The timing is such that this is a very good time for purchase. I continue to thank God for your dedicated efforts and ask God to bless you as we continue to do God’s work in the Church of Charleston.”  (Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone)

AID TO OUR MILITARY: Your generosity in donations has enabled us to continue sending care packages to our men and women of the military. They do appreciate your support.  Our Knights of Columbus continues to mail these packages. As long as we receive your and the Knights of Columbus support, our military will continue to receive these care packages. Again, thank you.  As always your prayers are requested for our military and their safe return.  – John Glinka

SAINTS TRIVIA:  Answer to last week’s question…

Saint Phocas is the Patron Saint of gardeners and sailors.

He was a gardener who lived at Sinope on the Black Sea, who used his crops to feed the poor and also aided persecuted Christians.   Phocas is the Greek word for "seal", which may explain his patronage of sailors and mariners.  Our youth group might want to ask his intercession for a good crop from their garden to give to Fr. Pat’s Kitchen!

StewardshipGraphicJesus is describing God’s immeasurable generosity when He says in today’s Gospel, “Whoever asks, receives; whoever seeks, finds; whoever knocks, is admitted.”  But it should also be the description of us as Christian stewards – those seeking to follow Christ by using our gifts in service to others.  (See Luke 11:10)

CHRISTIAN WILLS SEMINAR - The Christian Wills Seminar will be taking place this Thursday, July 29. The reception begins at 6:00 PM; the seminar starts at 6:30 PM.  You may still register by calling the parish office, (Patty Guazzo 237-3428, ext. 0), or register on-line (www.pbocchurch.com).
