Divine Mercy Service Thank You

We would like to extend a very special thanks to Fr. Bill Sneck, SJ for officiating at this year’s Divine Mercy Service.  We also extend our appreciation to the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard, Council 11028, the PBOC Choir members: Betty Roy, Nancy Szarowicz, Mabel Vervaat, Marion Seman and Yvonne Rocke, and Pat McGrath for her musical accompaniment.  We also extend our gratitude to Jo Timpano for her assistance.  Their generous efforts gave this celebration of the Divine Mercy the honor and fervency that was requested by the Sacred Heart to St. Faustina.  Thanks to all who participated.    – Pat Burg

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS:

Catholic Home Misions Appeal Thank you for your support of the Catholic Home Missions Appeal!  Because of your generosity, the Appeal will be able to provide funding for evangelization, religious education, yuth ministry, and other essential services in poor dioceses.  You have made a difference for the Church in the United States by strengthening the Church at home.  To learn more about how your money is making a difference through Catholic Home Missions, please visit www.usccb.org/nationalcollections.

The annual collection for Catholic Charities will be taken up on May 8th – 9th.  The contributions you make on this Mother’s Day will make a great difference to those who struggle to live from day to day and look to the Church for assistance. With your help we can provide food for families, clothing for the homeless, job counseling for the unemployed, mental health services for those suffering with emotional illness and other life problems, elder care programs, case management for the elderly, dental and medical check-ups for the uninsured, and ministry to those in prison.

Medical Mission to San Pedro La Laguna, Guatemala

Deacon Ed Peitler, Director of Catholic Charities is now organizing the fall medical mission to Guatemala and a call for volunteers.  The date is October 16-23, 2010.  Some information from the January 2010 mission trip:
"Those of you who were on our last trip in January 2010 saw the new clinic building and experienced first-hand how it improved the delivery of services to people in a quiet atmosphere that respected patient's privacy.   We were able to do so much more because of the improved facilities, and because we took with us the most number of people ever - 38 medical missionaries.   We were able to have an intake room for vital signs and chief complaints, rooms for pediatrics, general adult medicine, OB-Gyn, gerontology, and dentistry.  Our pharmacy was staffed with four people, we had a lab that was able to do testing requested by the MD's,  and we had a good number of translators with us.  If you know of MD's, RN's, DMD's, bi-lingual people, or anyone else interested in going on mission, please direct them to our website: www.supportcatholiccharities.org and ask them to complete the application found there. On another note, we have been looking for ways that we can build on our one week stay at San Pedro and create a more lasting presence and follow-up to any treatment regime that our MD's might have begun.  Therefore, if you or anyone you know might have the inclination to do an extended stay in San Pedro - say 3-6 months, please let me know.  We have discussed this with the Sisters in the past and they have indicated a willingness to provide room and board to those working in the clinic.  I would think that there would be a few requirements: there be at least 3 people to do this; that at least one person is fully bi-lingual; and that at least two be licensed medical persons (RN's, MD's, Nurse Practitioners, DMD's)."
If anyone has questions about the mission, please contact past missionaries Doug Weiss (357-9299) or Mary Rana (237-0907).
