There is a certain urgency in today’s Gospel as Jesus calls His first disciples – Andrew and Simon, James and John.  Each one follows Jesus immediately, unhesitatingly abandoning nets and boats and father and fellow-workers.  To what is Jesus calling me – at this moment, in these circumstances?  What will I need to abandon in order to follow Him?

OUTREACH

RESPECT LIFE

Postcards for Senators and Congressman in Opposition to FOCA
Inserted in today's bulletin is a strip of three postcards to our two senators and congressman. These postcards state opposition to the so-called "Freedom of Choice Act" (FOCA), which is in committee in Congress and which the new President has agreed to sign.

The diocese is encouraging us to send these postcards because of the serious harm that will result from this bill. We are told that this law will create a new federal right to abortion and will repeal the Hyde Amendment allowing unlimited federal funding for abortion. The bill dictates removal of all safeguards ("interferences") currently in place at the state or local level. These include: full disclosure to the patient, parental notification for minors, waiting periods, restrictions based on fetal viability, conscience clause protections for doctors and nurses, protections for Catholic and other religious hospitals and public hospitals that do not currently perform abortions, exclusions for abortion coverage from health care plans of federal employees. It would even overturn bans on partial-birth abortion where the child is delivered except for the skull, which is then crushed in a procedure that ends the child's life. The common sense restrictions currently in law are supported by the vast majority of Americans, including those who identify themselves as "Pro-Choice".

ROSARY1
Pray for the defeat of this measure and for the innocent victims of abortion.

The Rosary for the unborn will be prayed IN THE CHAPEL after the 10:30 AM Mass next Sunday

(and each first Sunday of the month.)

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

THE KNIGHTS SUNDAY NEWS

READ ALL ABOUT IT !!!!!

Knights of Columbus Dedicated to Making a Difference

It is through five key areas of service - faith community, family, youth, and - fellowship that the Knights of Columbus truly makes a difference.

As Knights, our faith is our foundation. Dedicated to the Catholic Church's growth and her good works, we support religious outreach and promote vocations in an effort to strengthen the faith that unites us.

As committed as we are to our faith, so are we to building our families and communities. Whether it's through hosting family-focused activities, or supporting community events, Knights serve as valuable  role models for other Catholic men, as well as mentors  for all children.

And so, time and time again, Knights have proven that, through fellowship, the support we offer to those in need, our families, and our communities, is magnified.

Truly these men we call Knights are “Dedicated to Making a Difference.”

Vivat Jesus !

Education that Nurtures A Way of Life.

This coming week, we celebrate Catholic Schools and their importance in the faith development of our children.  Catholic Schools are educational centers where faith is a part of the school's culture.  We believe that every child is special and unique. The theme for Catholic Schools Week is "Commitment to Service".  This is an important quality to develop in our children.

Celebrating 10 years of Academic Excellence, St. Michael's Catholic School is uniquely committed to the academic, spiritual and emotional development of each student while fostering a spirit of respect and love among students, parents, teachers, staff and principal.  Every child is educated in faith, love and the sacredness of life.

I invite any parents interested in learning more about St. Michael’s to join us for this special week.  I'd welcome the opportunity to meet with you and take you on a guided tour of the school so you can see firsthand what makes our school special.

May God continue to bless us in this New Year.

Peace, Sr. Roberta Thoen
